Abstract

Coordination compounds, coordination polymers, and clusters have been studied for their optical properties in order to probe the electronic environment around the metal ions. Our studies have been on molecules and polymers of transition metals, e.g. Cd, post-transition metals, e.g. Pb, and in actinides, e.g. U. Understanding the properties of these complexes is a necessary first step if we want to understand their chemistry, and explore their potential applications.
