Abstract

The Prussian blue analogue rubidium manganese hexacyanoferrate (RbMnFe-PBA), is a molecular magnetic material, displaying a reversible visible-light-induced photomagnetic effect when optically switched between the ferromagnetic low temperature (LT) phase and the antiferromagnetic photo-induced (PI) phase. A material chemistry challenge is to develop efficient ways to modify and stabilize the metastable PI phase. The approach taken here is to modify the metastable phase behavior by constructing core/shell heterostructure with other PBAs that have different lattice constants than RbMnFe PBA. Core-shell particles with potassium nickel hexacyanochromate (KNiCr-PBA) were obtained via a stepwise co-precipitation method. The synthesis, PXRD patterns, FTIR spectra, and TEM images of core/shell heterostructures will be presented.
