Abstract | Here the photophysical properties of [Ru(2,2’-bipyridine)3]2+ (RuBpy) encapsulated within a previously reported framework, RWLC-2, containing a substituted secondary building unit (SBU) composed of cobalt carboxylate clusters, herein, (RWLC-2 (Co)), are reported. The RWLC-2 (Co) exhibits photophysical properties that are unique relative to the parent RWLC-2. Deconvolution of the emission decay data reveals two kinetic phases one attributed to laser scatter ( ̴ 3-6 ns) and a temperature dependent phase corresponding to the decay of the triplet metal to ligand charge transfer state (3MLCT) with a lifetime of ̴ 5-12 ns. The longer lifetime RWLC-2 (Co) exhibits photophysics consistent with photoinduced electron transfer (ET) between the RuBpy 3MLCT and the ground state Co3+-SBU cluster. |
